JAB Real Estate, Inc came together in 2004, following the 1990s boom in Chicago’s North Side neighborhood real estate and the related demographic changes. Recent college graduates drove demand for apartments, while young professionals a few years their senior remained in the city, and suburbanites returned to the city in large numbers. Neighborhoods that had fallen into disrepair saw the growth of nightlife, dining and shopping.
While condominiums proffered life-style amenities, apartment offerings, which were largely built in the early 20th century and last remodeled in the 1970s, lagged well behind. JAB found a fertile marketplace for high-quality rental units featuring condominium-like finishes.
JAB targeted neighborhood locations, well served by transportation, with the vibrant characteristics of urban living. Renovating vintage apartment buildings, building new construction projects and adapting historic structures such as old churches, JAB met the desires of the marketplace for contemporary neighborhood apartment offerings.
In 2019, JAB began to broaden its view nationally, seeking out urban centers with strong economies and an allure for well-educated young professionals. Today, JAB has brought its original model to Denver, Phoenix, Salt Lake City and Miami, looking to provide amenity-rich, neighborhood residences.
